Cas and Jonesy test their limits
Aussie adventure duo James ‘Cas’ Castrisson and Justin ‘Jonesy’ Jones have taken on the Garmin Connect Challenge, putting their fitness and determination to the test.
The Garmin Connect Challenge is a series of high-octane webisodes featuring the pair. Using online analysis tool, Garmin Connect, Cas and Jonesy can analyse, compare and share their vital statistics during training.
Cas and Jonesy have trekked some of the world’s toughest landscapes, including to the South Pole and back, and are now encouraging other Australians to get out and explore the wilderness.
The webisodes bring everyday Aussies in touch with the joys of hiking, cycling, camping, road tripping and embracing a rush of adrenaline in their lives. Cas and Jonesy relied on one another to make it through their recent record-breaking trek to the South Pole. However, the Garmin Connect Challenge webisodes see them split up in rugged terrain, relying on their survival skills and a range of GPS devices.
“In Antarctica, Garmin was the difference between life and death for us,” said Justin Jones. “The challenge shows how a clever device can act as a trek companion. We had a great time filming the webisodes and pushing ourselves to the limit”.
Earlier this year, Cas and Jonesy broke records by completing the longest unsupported polar expedition in history. The pair trekked from the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back without assistance. The 89-day voyage saw them ski over 2200km, dragging their belongings through the harsh environment. Following this ambitious expedition, they are determined to share their passion for outdoor adventure with other Aussies on an nationwide tour presenting their most recent expedition.
The adventurous duo used Garmin gear to guide them to their destinations, monitor local weather conditions and altitude, measure their heart rates and track their overall training progress.
“It’s so important for Aussies to get away from their desks and into the natural environment as often as possible,” said James Castrisson. “For amateurs and seasoned adventure enthusiasts alike, quality GPS devices like Garmin’s eTrex 10 or Forerunner 910XT are an absolute must. They keep you safe while exploring harsh environments, but also provide the tools to monitor and challenge your physical abilities”.
